Why this new AFNT management web site?

Before that, the Alliance was using “offline” management methods for its memberships. In other words, member data were updated by several committee members from manually filled in forms, and bank payment records. These members changed over the passing time and data updating was not really done, because the only person who knows about the member’s details is the member self. Moreover, there are legal requirements for associations to keep records of their members’ address details and this was not done. The present web site correct all this through a centralised database and the latest IT&T Open Data Science. It is highly secure. However, to guarantee the best level of security, it recquires passwords.

Passwords are our friends!... While they are a burdain to all of us, passwords are still the mostly used way to protect our data security. Security breaches can happen in two ways: hacking the communications or one user’s password. This site data communications use the best encrypted technology through independently CERT-approved certificates. But there are great news! Free “libre” and private software engineering have now agreed on passwordless standards for web authentification and this web site is one of the first in New Zealand to offer the possibility. For those wishing not to use their password all the time, key devices are available on the market which can also be used to have access to other web sites and other IT services using these new standards. Some needs to be plugged in a USB port like this one, others uses “Bluetooth”.

The site works on smartphones as well. The menu item “Help” above gives more details on how to login.
